50 years ago my parents were a bride & groom....

Now that I do weddings, & get to hang out with brides & grooms all day long, its funny to think back what my parents were like ... because today, 50 years ago, they were a bride & groom.

Yes, they are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mom dad

It's not something you really hear of a lot anymore....

But my parents have stuck it out.

Wedding
My mom said she wishes this was in color so you could see the beautiful blue color her bridesmaids wore

I have seen my parents laugh together
I have seen my parents worship together
I have seen my parents make vacation for us fun
I have seen my parents get frustrated with each other
I have seen my parents make a happy home for us growing up
I have seen my parents go without so me & my brother could have
I have seen my parents struggle
I have seen my parents content
I have seen my parents take care of each other after surgeries
I have seen my parents in loss of their parents
I have seen my parents become grandparents

Hi Papaw & Mamaw & Teenie & Paps <3 p="">

I have only been with my parents 42 years... but they have been together longer then even I have seen.

I always laugh when my mom tells me stories of my dad having to sign her report cards because she was under 18 when they married & he became her 'legal guardian'... it was the times & how it was... oh how times change.

Mom dad

I wanted to throw my parents a party, or celebrate in some sort of big fashion.... it's not their style. I was actually threatened to do anything big or flashy.  I may go over & just throw confetti on them for the heck of it.  A little bit of flash in their day.

I asked them what 50 years felt like & my mom just laughed & my dad said, "Can you come over here & hold this pole"... he's working on building a ramp to their front porch.  Mom then just said, "it's just another day"... I think that's what makes 50 years work for them.  It really is just another day.

Family

Another day of knowing they're going to make it through the day together... whatever that holds.
Better... or worse.... sickness... or health... richer... or poorer....
its just another day

There's got to be something in the fact of knowing that someone has stuck with you for this long... through everything life has thrown at you...

I'm proud to say my parents have been together for 50 years.
It gives me an example.

Family

I've heard my dad say about marriage before, "hard times come. You just make it through it"... & I honestly believe that's the key.

So won't you join me in wishing my parents a happy 50th wedding anniversary...

here's to many more years ....

Love is patient; love is kind.
Love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way: it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice in wrong doing, but rejoices in truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
And now faith, hope, and love abide,
and the greatest of these is love.

  2. These photos very much remind me of older photos of my parents' wedding and also that of an aunt and uncle.. The times were indeed very different, harder in some ways and yet simpler in so many others. Happy Anniversary to your parents!
