The challenge? 52 weeks/52 handwritten letters.
Well, for me, can I make that 50 weeks/50 letters since we're already 2 weeks into the year?
I may not even make the full 50 - but I am wanting to take the challenge of sending out hand written cards or letters. One a week. That seems simple enough - right?
I used to be so good at sending out cards through the postal service, but with everything in life, things just kinda slip off.
But who doesnt love to receive a surprise in the mail? I know when I used to send cards to kids in the youth group, they always came running up to me with the biggest smile on their face. I think we're all like those kiddos - love a fun reminder that someone is thinking of you...
I know I have shoe boxes FULL of cards & letters... the most precious ones are the ones I still have from my friend Stephanie who is now with Jesus. Its just so comforting to look back, see her handwriting & I can hear her "voice" in the words she wrote... letters are like pieces of time captured...
One of my favorite books I've ever read is a book called "I Love You, Ronnie" - a book with nothing but the hand written letters that Ronald Reagan would send his wife. They are just touching, sweet, full of love... something I'm sure his wife can look back on & just cherish....hand written letters are powerful if you think about it...
Here are is a little bit more details on how others are doing this challenge:
“One piece of “real” mail sent out each week. It can be a letter, a postcard, a care package, a thank you note, handmade art, etc. I’m searching for all of the cards and stationary I have collected over the years and gathering them into one place with pens, envelopes (regular & padded), lots of stamps (.28 & .44), a glue stick, unlined index cards (great for making postcards), and a few USPS Small Flat Rate boxes.
Oh, and update that address book.”
You want to take on yet ANOTHER challenge for the year?
How about challenging yourself to one or two a month?
That's REALLY feasible...
Let me know if you will be joining in... & go & visit Mimi! She's pretty awesome...
Now off to get some Forever-Stamps before they hike up the price of postage again! :)
PS - if you want, email me your address... I'd love to add you to my address book & then you'll never know when you may get a little surprise in the mail from me...
